Part of the City's Capital Improvement Plan, half acre Sweeney Playground redesign offers new life to the park, with a brightly colored synthetic surface stretched over a rippling topography of hillocks and valleys. Water jets triggered by children encourage interactive play on hot summer days. The permeable surface and infiltration basin allow for groundwater recharge during storm events.

Sweeney Playground is a continuation of the research and practice of Stoss's interest in simple technical efficiencies and hybrid solutions that can do many things at the same time—most importantly enriching the lives and experiences of people. The renovations include new play equipment with poured-in safety surfacing, basketball court renovations, water play updates, new benches and drinking fountain, new state of the art lighting upgrades, improvements to the drainage system and much more.
