Rawan Alsaffar is a landscape designer with a focus on systems thinking and masterplanning. She graduated from the Harvard Graduate School of Design with a Masters in Landscape Architecture and a Masters in Advanced Studies in Urbanism, Landscape and Ecology. She received her Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Rhode Island School of Design. She is interested in the intersection of design and research, and the interchange between critical practice and architectural writing. Her work looks at infrastructure at the regional scale and its effect on urbanization and her current research focuses on the relationship between oil and desalination in the Persian Gulf and their effect on agriculture and marine environments.
